How can I get
my site ranked higher with the search engines?
Answer: There are several things that should be
done in order to improve site rankings.
- First, develop title tags and meta tags, as well as link tags and
alt tags for every image and hyperlink on each and every page on your
site. (See the other selections in Submission Nutrition for tutorials
on how to do so).
- Second, when possible vary content in order to attract more queries
about different subjects. Third, develop a long term strategy by
linking to sites and asking for a reciprocal link. Many search engines
are beginning to use link popularity as a criteria to ranking.
Question: What are title tags and meta tags?
Answer: Title tags are wording that appears at the
top of a browser window that is commonly used to describe a page on a web
site. The title tags for home page are Arkansas Valley Web Works, free
backgrounds, music, stories. Notice how they explain the name of our
company, and some keywords about our site content. Meta tags are
descriptive words that pertain to a site's content. Our meta tag keywords
are web site
design, WEB SITE DESIGN, free graphics, FREE GRAPHICS, backgrounds, BACKGROUNDS, html
tutorials, HTML TUTORIALS, music, poetry, stories, contests. Keywords
are a series of words that describe the content of a site.
Question: Why are title tags important?
Answer: Title tags are imperative because the
search bots place importance on them. They read title tags and place more
weight on their importance toward refining their search.
Question: Why are meta tags important?
Answer: Search engines look for meta tag keywords
for doing queries. Meta tags are slightly less important than title tags;
but they should still be used on every page for a long-term strategy of
achieving higher search rankings.
Question: Should meta tags and title tags be
different on every page?
Answer: Meta tags and title tags should be
reflective of the content of the page. That way the search bots have a
better chance of "liking" some of the wording and giving a
higher ranking. Pages with different content should have different meta
tags. Pages with the same content can have the same meta tags. Every page
should have a slightly different title tag though so the search engines
differentiate between pages.
Question: Will the use of meta tags and title tags
insure me high rankings with the search engines?
Answer: The use of meta tags and title tags will
not insure high rankings. A trick that web masters use to get high
rankings is to have varied content. For example, my content includes web
graphics, tutorials, contests, music, poetry, short stories, and
wallpaper. The theory is the more content a site includes, the more
chances are of a matching query. Also make heavy use of alt tags as
keywords indicators and link tags.
Question: How can I find out what my rankings are
with the search engines?
