The following procedure makes a button on a
white background.
1. Open Corel PhotoPaint9 and choose New Image.
2. In the Create a New Image dialog box,
specify pixels, Width:100, Height:50, and Resolution:72. Click OK.
3. Pick a texture that you like and fill the blank
white image with that texture. We picked "aerial clouds".

4. Click the Square Mask icon and draw a small
rectangular figure. A line of marching ants surrounds the rectangle. |

5. Click the Additive button on the horizontal Mask
toolbar. |

6. Click the small triangle on the Mask icon
and then choose the Circle Mask icon and draw a small oval on the inside and
outside of the rectangle.
7. Click the Invert Mask icon on the horizontal
Mask toolbar.
8. Click Effects, 3D Effects, The Boss.

9. In The Boss dialog box and the Edge
tab, set the Width: 9, Height:16, Smoothness: 23, Drop off:
Mesa. |

10. In The Boss dialog box and the Lighting
tab, set the Brightness: 53, Sharpness:1, Direction: 56, and Angle:
20. Click OK.
11. Click Mask, Invert. A line of
marching ants appears around the button that was created.
12. Choose Edit, Copy to place the
button on the clipboard.
13. Choose File, New. The Create
a New Image dialog box appears. Set the Width:100, Height:50, Resolution:
72. Click OK.
Note: If you have chosen a
tiled background to use behind your button, now is the time to import it and place it on
the new image. Your button will be inserted on top of the new image.
14. Choose Edit, Paste, Paste As
New Object.
15. Click Object, Combine, Combine
All Objects With Background.
16. Click Effects, Digimarc, Embed
Watermark, and enter the copyright year in the appropriate space.
17. Click File, Save As. The Save
An Image to Disk dialog box appears. In the Files of type drop down list choose
JPG-JPEG Bitmaps. In the File name box, give the image an appropriate name. Click Save.
That's all there is to it. Experiment with the
rectangle and circle masking tools to create different button shapes. An example of the
created button is pictured below.
