My full name is Donald Richard Hunter. My friends
know me as Don. For that matter my enemies know me as Don too, but
hopefully we can be friends. I was born in Milford, Nebraska on November
15, 1950. My family moved to the Arkansas Valley in 1955 where Dad
farmed and ranched, and Mom worked as a legal secretary. After
graduating from Las Animas High School in 1968 our family moved to Rocky
Ford, Colorado where my education continued at Otero Junior College in
La Junta majoring in Liberal Arts and Music. After receiving my
Associate of Arts, I was employed farming and ranching and driving
trucks until 1981 when a back injury was sustained. I returned to
college at the University of Southern Colorado and in 1984 earned my
Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies, Political Science, and
Education. During my tenure there I was introduced to computers by a
kindly science professor who opened my eyes to the many possibilities
available to educators using computers. Little did I know how the
technology would blossom into what all of us are used to seeing today.
I was employed as a teacher in Denver area public
schools for a number of years; and owned and operated a successful lawn
care company in the summer months. Approaching middle age, with battered
body and tiring of the city hassle, I returned to Rocky Ford to help Mom
after Dad passed away and until her death in 1997.
